The short version
Kalori keeps your food diary on your phone. There is no Kalori server, no account database and no sync — nothing you log is uploaded to us, because there is nowhere for it to go.
Two features send data off your device, both only when you use them, and both are named below.
What stays on your phone
Everything you log: meals, portions, drinks, water, weigh-ins, recipes, custom foods, photos you attach, your goals and your profile.
Health data read from Apple Health — steps, active energy, body mass and sleep — is read on demand to work out what you have burned. It is never transmitted.
Weigh-ins you choose to save are written back to Apple Health, which stays on your device under Apple’s own protection.
Your name and email, if you sign in with Apple or Google, are stored locally so the app can greet you. They are not sent anywhere by Kalori.
What leaves your phone
Food searches and barcode scans are looked up at Open Food Facts and, for restaurant and branded items, at the USDA's FoodData Central. What is sent is the search text or the barcode — not your diary, and not anything identifying you.
Photo analysis, if you have added your own Anthropic API key, sends that one photo to the Claude API (api.anthropic.com) to be identified, under your key and your account with them. Without a key, photos are analysed on your device and never leave it.
Nothing else is transmitted. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third party receives your data for their own purposes.
Sign-in
An account is optional — you can use every part of Kalori without one, and the sign-in screen offers a way past it.
If you do sign in, Apple or Google handles the authentication and Kalori keeps only the identifier, name and email they hand back, on this device.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete your account. It erases your diary and your account together. For Sign in with Apple, Apple keeps its own record of the sign-in; remove it under Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple.
Children
Kalori is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.
Not medical advice
Kalori tracks what you eat and estimates what you burn. It does not diagnose, treat or give medical advice. Talk to a clinician before making significant changes to how you eat.
